Ljubljana, 4th December 2024  – Today it is announced that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, will play a season at the Ljubljana Festival in Slovenia, for the very first time with only two weeks of performances, from 9 July 2025 at Cankarjev dom. 

The tickets (prices from € 49,00) will be on sale from Friday 6 December at 11am on ljubljanafestival.si, cd-cc.si, Eventim.si, Križanke and Cankarjev dom Box Office. 

The Ljubljana Festival is one of the oldest music festivals in Europe, founded in 1953 and it will take place for the 73rd time next summer. Each year the festival hosts the world’s leading artists and cultural institutions, which bring visitors from all over the world to the Slovene capital. A regular part of a thoughtfully prepared programme is also a musical production, some of them were created especially for the Ljubljana Festival. 

I am very happy that we will be expanding our repertoire with a major production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, one of the most successful musicals in the world. It is an honour and a great pleasure for Cankarjev dom to host Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA by Broadway Entertainment Group for the first time in its long history. The musical is to tour Ljubljana following an agreement between four equal partners, Ljubljana Festival, Cankarjev dom, VignaPR/Koda Events and Broadway Entertainment Group. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical is also one of the most successful in entertainment history. It has played to over 160 million people in 195 cities in 21 languages. Having premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End on 9 October 1986 and debuted on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre on 26 January 1988, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has won over 70 major theatre awards. On January 9, 2006, it became the longest-running show in the history of Broadway, surpassing CATS with its 7,486th performance.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, and set in magnificent Paris in the 1930s, tells the tale of a musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. 

Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano – Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, the Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.

With 100 cast, crew and orchestra members, jaw-dropping scenery, breathtaking special effects and more than 230 costumes, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous music including “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Think of Me“ and “Music of the Night”.

The original London and New York productions are by Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group Ltd. The Really Useful Group Ltd. is  wholly owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber and exists to produce, license and promote his shows and music around the globe, including some of the most successful and longest-running musicals such as THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, CATS, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Sunset Boulevard.
